Yoga and Peace: Practices To Cleanse Your Mind And Body

Yoga is usually considered to be a panacea for a plethora of physical and mental diseases. It is for the mind as much as the body, “Peace” being the key factor. The consciousness of mind put together by harmonizing thoughts brings peace to an individual’s soul.

The concentration of inner workings largely depends upon numerous factors such as our interaction with others and the Self. 

On this occasion of International Day of Peace, when the world is still fighting COVID-19, the zest for global peace is paramount. It can be achieved and instilled on individual levels by adopting Yoga into the day-to-day lifestyle.

Yoga brings peace to mind, body and soul by cleansing the entirety of one’s structure. Here are five practices that will help you bring peace within and for others around:

1. Cleansing Body: In order to begin the process of eliminating negatives from the body and attain peaceful purity, one has to relieve the body of ‘toxicities’. Maintaining a clean body from inside out is your first step towards peace.

2. Nutrition: “Strong stomach, strong mind” is a life mantra that makes your days better and more fruitful. It is an ancient belief that a healthy stomach greatly limits the ailments of the human body.

3. Yoga Asana: Performing Asanas is a complete body workout that begins from within and tones physical persona. It helps in creating a smooth “Metabolism” – a critical present-day crisis of almost every person.

4. Pranayama: Breath to release every turmoil, tension and worry in mind. It is known how the best way to lose jitters before any important task is to take deep breaths in and out. Well yes, this popular yet hardly thought of technique is a bigger key towards gaining stability in the consciousness.

5. Dhyaan: Meditation on self is known to be a medicinal remedy against afflictions and negative thought processes. To disassociate yourself from pessimistic, defeatist and obstructive barriers of the mind, dhyaan is beneficial, as it brings Ekāgratā between one’s surrounding and inner self.

6. The Serenity of the Consciousness: Last but not least, the congregation of multiple principles like Maitri (friendliness); Karuna (compassion); Mudita (gladness); Upeksanam (to be indifferent); Sukha (happiness); Dukha (sorrow); Punya (virtue); Apunya (vice); etc when attributed together represent the qualities of an ideal person. An individual who learns to best these principles gains the perspective of beholding and giving love just as mind helps the consciousness to bring purity and clarity of thoughts.

Bringing peace to one’s mind, body and soul, thus, can be intricately attained by practicing Yoga in various forms. The first step begins by realizing the need to establish peace and educating all who seep into this knowledge.
